Agriculture is driving the shapes and looks of our planet to a large extend. High input production systems provide food, energy, and income to a growing human population with often dire environmental consequences.
The Global Agroforestry Network (GAN) is a new initiative of scientists working on cocoa, coffee, and rubber agroforestry systems to understand the ecological, social, and economic consequences of production decisions.

OUR WORK
Research sites
We promote global multidisciplinary work across stakeholders to better understand agroforestry systems, their functions and how to use agroecological production strategies to overcome sustainability challenges.
Agroforestry systems are of global interest, because they are produced primarily by smallholders, of large economic value, and located mostly in biodiverse tropical regions.

Projects
Our projects target major trade commodities like cocoa, coffee, and rubber. We use our global site network in Latin America, Africa and Asia to understand how diversified cropping systems can benefit people and the environment. We work with researchers, farmers, industry, policy makers, and NGOs to build a better future of agriculture.
Publications
Our work is multidisciplinary and published both, in scientific journals and public media outlets. We aim to provide the best knowledge about cocoa, coffee, and other agroforestry crops to the scientific community, the public, and policy makers. In regular workshops, we identify important questions in agroforestry research.

Engagement
We are using our findings to inform the public and the people on the ground with public seminars and workshops. Our network of NGOs helps to dissemniate knowledge to the farmers.
